Einride’s autonomous Sweden–Norway border run with PostNord — driverless freight crosses a frontier

Background record (late 2025): an Einride truck completed what the company calls the first fully autonomous cross-border freight run, from Sweden to Norway with PostNord cargo — autonomy’s convergence with electrification, on public roads, without a driver.

Background record: in late 2025, an Einride truck completed what the company describes as the first fully autonomous cross-border freight run in the world — driving from Sweden into Norway with PostNord freight, no driver in the cab, under its autonomous operating permits.

The run matters less as a stunt than as a regulatory artefact: cross-border autonomy requires aligned permits from two countries’ road authorities — the same institutional coalition-building that infrastructure needs (see our Chongqing case study on who owns the bottlenecks). Einride now holds a fifth consecutive NHTSA approval in the US (March 2026) alongside its European autonomous operations, making it the most permitted autonomous freight operator anywhere.

For fleets, autonomy stays a watch-not-plan item for this decade’s procurement — but note the compound: electric drivetrains are autonomy’s natural platform (drive-by-wire, predictable torque, quiet sensor environments), so the same fleets that electrify first will autonomous-first. Einride’s trajectory (listed June 2026 at $1.35B, $92M expected ARR) is the one to track for when ‘driverless’ becomes a procurement line rather than a press release.
