WattTonne. Electric trucking, weighed
About & disclosure

Independent — in writing

We help Europe’s freight decision-makers electrify with confidence: independent, evidence-first, and free to every fleet that reads us. That promise only works if you can check it. Here it is, checkable.

Mission

European trucking must electrify, and the people making that decision — fleet owners, shippers, 3PL executives — are doing it under time pressure, regulatory complexity and a flood of manufacturer claims. Our job is to weigh those claims: verified vehicle dossiers, a published scoring method, transparent cost models, dated policy tracking, measured field tests. We take no position for or against any manufacturer, any country of origin, or any energy technology. We take positions on arithmetic.

Who reads us

The core

Owners and MDs of fleets running 20–500 trucks; fleet, procurement and sustainability managers at 3PL groups; shippers facing scope-3 mandates. The people who sign truck orders.

The influencers

Operations and energy managers, leasing and insurance analysts, consultants — the people who shape the decision before it reaches the board.

The ecosystem

OEM sales and product teams (European and Chinese), charging and swap operators, associations, investors, journalists. They read us to understand the buyer.

The problems we solve

For fleets, the transition’s real obstacles are not technological but informational: TCO models built on brochure numbers; a policy database tracking 27 countries that changes every July; the charging-versus-swap decision with no neutral referee; warranty terms that hide their exclusions; residual values nobody can price; and — after Windrose — the simple question of which new brand’s evidence survives due diligence. Our tools exist to answer each: the Compare scorecard, the TCO Calculator, Subsidy Watch, the Charging vs Swap framework and 16 case studies, Evidence Files, field tests.

For manufacturers and infrastructure providers, the mirror problem: Europe’s truck buyers cannot be reached through consumer EV media or general logistics press, and — in the case of Chinese entrants — a market that no longer takes any claim at face value. A genuinely independent platform is the most credible channel that exists into that buyer. That is what our advertising business sells; it never sells the conclusions themselves.

What makes us different (USP)

Buy-side only

We don’t report the industry for the industry. Seventy percent of our editorial is built around one question: what does a fleet decision-maker need before signing an electric truck order?

The China–Europe bridge

First-hand Chinese industry information (penetration, price wars, swap networks, WVTA pipelines) translated for European decision-makers — and European reality (tolls, grids, after-sales) translated back.

Evidence-first method

Every score cites its evidence; every estimate is flagged; every date is printed. Post-Windrose, that is not a style choice — it is the market’s entry requirement.

Location

Antwerp: one of Europe’s largest truck ports, a Milence hub city, on the E19/A16 corridor. Our case studies happen within driving distance of the desk.

Funding model

Readers pay nothing. We are funded by advertising and commercial services bought by the supply side — vehicle makers, charging and battery-swap providers, financiers, insurers and fleet-service companies. Rates and formats are set out in our Media Kit.

The three firewalls

  1. Separation. Advertising is handled through ads@wattonne.com by people with no editorial role. Editors do not see rate negotiations; salespeople do not see unpublished editorial.
  2. Labelling. Sponsored content is permanently marked “Sponsored” — no native formats, no exceptions, no expiry.
  3. Assessment is not a product. Scores, Evidence Files, field tests and TCO conclusions are never sold, never sponsored, and never pre-approved by any manufacturer. Refusals of advertiser requests for editorial influence are documented.

Ownership and related businesses

WattTonne is published by the same owner as BessRe and Robanchor, which provide after-sales and field services in Europe to Chinese manufacturers of energy-storage systems and robotics.

Manufacturers we cover may also advertise on this site, and some may be commercial contacts of those affiliated companies in other sectors. Rather than ask you to take our independence on trust, we put the protections in writing:

  • Affiliated companies and advertisers pay identical rates. There is no preferential pricing.
  • No advertiser, affiliated company or manufacturer receives a pre-publication preview of our coverage or assessments.
  • No advertiser or affiliated company receives a favourable assessment, or protection from critical coverage.

Advertising and sponsored content are always labelled. Assessments and scores are never for sale. If you think we have fallen short of any of this, tell us at hello@wattonne.com.
