Background record: ABB E-mobility introduced the MCS1200 in April 2025 — the first megawatt charging system from a global electrification major, rated at 1.2 MW and designed for heavy-duty vehicles at fleet depots and public corridor sites. It opened the megawatt hardware tier that Siemens, Kempower, Power Electronics, Alpitronic and Huawei have since joined.

ABB’s early move matters for the market’s structure: the company that built much of Europe’s passenger fast-charging infrastructure put its industrial weight behind truck megawatt charging before the vehicles demanding it were in series production (MAN’s MCS trucks only entered series in July 2026). Hardware-first, vehicles-second is the chicken-and-egg resolution that worked — CPOs had procurable megawatt hardware in time to build the sites the trucks now need.

For depot and hub procurement history: the MCS1200’s spec (1.2 MW, fleet-and-public configurations) is the reference point against which the newer entrants (Siemens’ 1.68 MW, PE’s 1.44 MW) position. Six majors in the tier means buyers should be testing at least three against their duty cycles — the hardware bake-off is now standard procurement practice at serious depots.
