Einride announced the acquisition of Flipturn for $38.4 million, folding charging-management and energy-optimisation software into its Saga platform. Flipturn’s technology orchestrates depot charging — scheduling, load management, energy cost optimisation for electric fleets — which complements Einride’s vehicle and autonomy layers.

The strategic read: electric freight economics are won or lost in energy management (our depot-charging explainer’s central point), and Einride is buying the layer that controls it. A fleet operator that can optimise when and how fast trucks charge — against tariffs, grid constraints and route schedules — can offer per-km pricing competitors can’t match. It’s the same integration logic as Octopus’s Kraken inside the Swaptopus swap venture: the energy platform becomes the profit engine.

For fleets evaluating TaaS (trucking-as-a-service) providers, the question to ask after this acquisition is whether your energy data flows with your transport contract — and who captures the optimisation savings.
