The THG’s role in German electrification economics is structural but under-appreciated outside Germany: it pays charging operators for the carbon their electricity displaces, creating a revenue line that improves every charging business case — depot operators can monetise their own consumption, and public CPOs price it into tariffs. Combined with the toll exemption (to mid-2031) and the new €1 billion infrastructure programme, THG is the third leg of Europe’s deepest incentive stack.
