Germany’s Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) opened applications on 26 May 2026 for its truck-charging infrastructure programme: up to €1 billion through 2029 for high-performance charging for battery-electric heavy vehicles — depot and public hubs, grid connections, battery storage and intelligent load management. SMEs gained simplified access for depot-charging solutions from 5 June, with further application windows planned through the programme’s life.

This is the third leg of the German stack we track: the toll exemption (to mid-2031, worth €30–50k/truck/yr) on the operating side, THG quota income for charging operators on the carbon side, and now direct infrastructure capex support on the build side. No other European country stacks all three at this scale — which is why Germany leads registrations (4,766 in 2025, share 4.6% and climbing in ICCT’s Q2 data) and why every OEM and CPO treats it as the beachhead market.

For fleets with German depots: the SME simplified track is the actionable item — depot charging with load management and storage is fundable, and the application window mechanics (first-come budget logic, as with AanZET) reward files prepared early.
