Munich, 31 July 2026 — MAN has started series production of electric trucks equipped for the Megawatt Charging System, making MCS a factory option rather than a retrofit promise. The context: Mercedes-Benz Trucks tested MCS earlier in 2026 with two eActros 600s on a ~2,400 km Germany–Sweden run (the 600 ships MCS-prepared), and Scania lists MCS charging at up to 750 kW, available for orders from 2026. Megawatt charging is now a procurement specification, not a research project.

Why this changes the long-haul question. The long-haul constraint has always been downtime arithmetic: a 45-minute legal break must refuel the truck. At 400 kW CCS the break buys 150–250 km; at 750 kW–1.1 MW it buys 300–400 km, which closes the gap for most European trunk routes. With series-production MCS vehicles and Milence’s public MCS sites (Antwerp with a combined 2.8 MW, Zwolle, Landvetter), both halves of the system now exist — but asymmetrically. As trans.info’s reporting underlines, public MCS coverage is still the exception: a handful of sites on selected corridors cannot yet support routine international long-haul. The vehicle side of the argument is now settled; the site map is the remaining bottleneck, and it fills through 2026–2028 on Milence’s published build curve (34 hubs in May, 90 by end-2028).

Procurement guidance. Fleets ordering tractors this year for 2027+ delivery should spec MCS-readiness regardless of current route needs — retrofitting later costs more and the option locks in residual value as the site map fills.
