The UK government detailed its £1 billion zero-emission truck package in March 2026: a Depot Charging Scheme covering up to 70% of infrastructure costs (capped at £1 million per site) for fleets, charge point operators and local authorities; continuation of the Plug-in Truck Grant at the tapered rates taking effect in April (£81,000 for >26t artics); and expansion of the ZEHID demonstration programme that has already put close to 300 zero-emission HGVs into named fleets.

The package’s design is the most complete in Europe: it funds vehicles and infrastructure together (the Netherlands funds vehicles, Germany funds infrastructure — Britain funds both), and it explicitly targets the depot layer where the economics are proven. OZEV’s guidance emphasises simple applications and fast turnaround, with webinars through spring — a marked contrast to the bureaucratic heaviness of some continental schemes.

For UK fleets the sequencing is the same as everywhere: infrastructure application first (grid lead times), vehicle orders against confirmed energisation dates, grant documentation ready before the FY2026/27 volume caps (100 trucks per customer per year) bite.
